Bench

Sight tapes you can move, snap, and share

The list subtitle: peep, radius, and speed become a printable pin stack — shoot the end, not guess the mark. Each card shows tape name, linked bow, mark count, zero distance, and chrono fps. Empty state: build a tape from a bow profile and a practice distance set.

First launch seeds three tapes, all zeroed at 20 yd with grid snap on:

  • Indoor 18 m pin set — Indoor 18 m Compound + Victory VAP 400 Indoor + Indoor 18 m block

The editor toolbar: Undo / Redo mark moves, delete selected mark, bring mark to front, toggle grid snap, share printable tape. Header line: bow name · arrow name · chrono fps.

Add yardage chips pull leftover distances from the linked set. Relayout rebuilds marks from ballistics (chrono speed, sight radius, zero). Selected pin: scale 0.6–1.8×, rotate −30° to 30°. Zero slider 10–40 yd.

Share writes a 420×1400 PNG: navy gradient, gold pin lines, distance labels. Chooser title: “Share sight tape”. On Android 10+ the file lands in Pictures/SightMark as SightMark_<name>_<time>.png. WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE is requested only up to API 28. The app has no INTERNET permission.

How a mark lands on the riser

SightTapeCalculator uses g = 32.174 ft/s². Speed is coerced to at least 80 fps. Time of flight for a yardage is (yd × 3) / speed. Drop in inches is 0.5 × g × t² × 12. Gap versus zero is the difference of those drops. Sight gap in inches is sightRadiusIn × tan(atan(drop / (rangeFt × 12))), with range in feet at least 1. Layout then normalizes gaps onto the tape between offsetY 0.08 and 0.92 (minimum span 0.25 in). Default unused-distance palette if a set is missing: 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 yd.

Arsenal

Five seeded bows, six seeded shafts

Arsenal subtitle: compound and recurve geometry plus shaft builds you can swap onto any tape. A bow stores ATA, brace, peep height, sight radius, IBO (optional), chrono fps, draw weight, draw length, and notes. Kind is Compound or Recurve. An arrow stores family (Aluminum / Carbon), spine, GPI, length, point / insert / nock / fletch grains, and vane count. Shaft grains = GPI × length. Total grains = shaft + point + insert + nock + fletch. Arrow detail opens FOC bench, edit, or delete.

FOC, spine, energy — offline

FOC balancer

Stations used: point 0.35", insert 0.9", shaft at mid-length, fletch at length − 3.2", nock at length − 0.35". FOC % from balance vs geometric center. Sliders on the FOC screen: point 50–150 gr, insert 0–40 gr, length 24–32".

Spine match

Filters chart rows where draw is within ±2 lb of the row’s range, then sorts by point-mass hint. Score 0–100 from draw and point deltas. Sliders: draw 18–75 lb, draw length 22–32", point 70–140 gr. Owned spines in your kit are tagged “in kit”.

Kinetic energy

ke = massGr × fps² / 450240. Momentum = massGr × fps / 225218 (shown as slug·fps). Speed slider 140–340 fps. Energy screen subtitle: “Speed × arrow mass. Bands are educational — not a license to hunt.” Scale line in the UI: “25 target · 40 3D · 55 deer-class”.

Standards stay on the phone

Studio title “Standards”. Distance chips: Yards / Meters. Mass chips: Grains / Grams. They switch independently. Theme chips: System, Light, Dark. Defaults are imperial (yards and grains). Studio footer: “SightMark Bow Kit stores everything on-device. No account, no range diary.”

Search kit filters bows, arrows, tapes, and blocks in one pass (chips All / Bows / Arrows / Tapes / Blocks). Bow match uses name + kind; arrow uses name + spine; tapes and blocks use name.

First-run onboarding (three pages, gold dots, Skip / Next / Get Started):

  • Print a tape before you warm up — peep height, sight radius, chrono → sequential marks on a carbon-studio tape.
  • Balance FOC, then match spine — point, insert, shaft, nock, and vanes feed front-of-center; spine charts keep aluminum and carbon honest.
  • Range day, not guesswork — youth recurve, indoor 18 m, and outdoor 3D kits ship seeded so the bench is live on first launch.

Bows, arrows, tapes, marks, and distance sets live in a local Room database (sightmark.db). Units, theme, and onboarding-done live in DataStore (sightmark_prefs).

Help with SightMark Bow Kit

If a tape will not share, a seeded kit looks empty, or a Lab number does not match what you expected from the formulas above, write the developer. Say which room you were in (Bench, Arsenal, Lab, Studio), the bow / arrow / tape name, and what you tapped. Typical support notes include Android version and a short description of the last action — that is enough to start.

There is no in-app chat and no account login. Mail is the support channel. Energy bands in Lab are educational copy from the app — they are not a hunting license and not a substitute for local rules or a coach.

Frequently asked questions

How does the app place pins on a tape?

It uses time of flight from yardage and chrono speed (minimum 80 fps), drop with g = 32.174 ft/s², then converts the drop-versus-zero into a sight gap with your sight radius. Marks are then spread on the tape between 8% and 92% of the stage height. Relayout rebuilds that stack from the current bow and distance set.

What do the FOC colors and cues mean?

Light is under 9% (“Nose-light — add point weight or shorten the shaft.”). Ideal is 9–16% (“Stable FOC window for backyard and 3D setups.”). Heavy is above 16% (“Very forward — great for hunting, watch trajectory.”). The percent comes from point, insert, shaft, fletch, and nock stations on the shaft — not from a scale photo.

Can I treat the kinetic-energy number as permission to hunt?

No. The Energy screen says the bands are educational — not a license to hunt. Cues mention target / small game, youth / 3D foam, a whitetail-class education band, and a high-energy hunting band that still asks you to confirm ethical yardage. Club Hunter’s own note: confirm ethical KE before any field use.

How do I print or save a tape?

In the tape editor, use Share printable tape. The app draws a 420×1400 PNG (navy gradient, gold pins, labels) and opens the system share sheet. On Android 10 and newer it also stores the image under Pictures/SightMark. There is no PDF export in the app.

Can yards and grams be mixed?

Yes. Studio splits distance (Yards / Meters) and mass (Grains / Grams). They are stored separately. Copy in Studio: every open project recalculates instantly when those chips change.

What is already in the kit when I tap Get Started?

Five bows, six arrows, four distance sets, and three tapes listed on this page. Onboarding page three says youth recurve, indoor 18 m, and outdoor 3D kits ship seeded so the bench is live on first launch.

Does SightMark need an account or the internet?

Studio states everything is stored on-device — no account, no range diary. Lab says calculations run offline. The Android manifest does not declare INTERNET. The only extra storage permission is WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, limited to Android 9 and below, for saving a shared tape image.
